① Product Description

The moment I laid eyes on this bowl, something in me went quiet.

The outside is wrapped in deep, settled brown — the color of Okinawan soil after rain. Running all the way around it is the basanai pattern: diagonal carved lines, crossing and layering like banana leaves swaying in the island breeze. Basanai is the Okinawan word for banana. That's what I love about it. A pattern that borrowed its name from something so ordinary — and yet it feels so alive.

Run your finger along the grooves and you can feel the hand that made it. No sketch. No mold. No machine. Just a hand that learned through years of practice — carving it all in one go. That's all.

Stoneware clay with lead-free glaze. The exterior is finished in a deep, earthy brown glaze and carved all the way around with the basanai (banana leaf) line pattern. Lead- and cadmium-free as confirmed by the artisan.

Handmade in Tsuboya, Naha, Okinawa, Japan by Kamany — a contemporary line of Ikutouen studio.

Each piece is one-of-a-kind. Slight variations in color, texture, and size are a natural part of the handmaking process — and part of its charm.

Hand wash only. Not microwave safe. Not dishwasher safe. Not induction cooktop compatible. Avoid sudden temperature changes.

Made with lead-free glaze as confirmed by the artisan. Third-party laboratory certification is in progress. This product currently includes a Prop 65 warning out of an abundance of caution while certification is pending.
