The moment I picked this mug up, I knew — this one is coming home with me.
The top half is wrapped in a rough, sandy white glaze. The bottom half glows with the turquoise of Okinawa's ocean. And where the two glazes meet, a thin band runs between them — the colors of a sun sinking into the horizon, mixed with the greens that line the Okinawan shore. Every time I look at it, that coastline comes rushing back.
Vertical petal carvings wrap around the lower half. A small, grounded pedestal holds it steady. And at the base of the handle — a tiny spiral curl, like a wave caught mid-turn.
